UPSU stands for University of Plymouth Students Union.

TermiSoc and UPSU have a long history of helping each other out, the most recent of this can be ilistrated by this story writen by Moose.

"Let me tell you all a story about the UPSU, and Mr Smith please correct me if I am wrong at all.

It was back in I think 2003, about September the start of term when Ryan Smith (President at the time) was told by the union these three things:

  1. No more 'honoury' members unless they paid £25 a year for Assoc Membership of the Union
  2. No more FluxBBS as it's not used just by TermiSoc members
  3. No money because you don't have enough members (I had got 58 that year)

Then in December 2004 this happened... IT Services said to us, excuse me you can't run any email/web hosting services on our network without all the traffic and filtering going through one of our servers.

We asked the union for help and we got back the answer. "No we can't help, they are probably right, we want to centralise to a student portal."

Then because lecturers saying how good TermiSoc was and also the'educational' value of the servers we just about kept them. We did, however, lose all flexibility of ports and got moved from the front of the PlymNet to some switched to hell cupboard in Babbage.

So when you people start giving UPSU free help remember the facts that:

  1. They tried to shut TermiSoc down
  2. They will never support you against the University

So if you still think you should be hosting UPSU sites, GB's of photos and the front of their UPSU.com site for free then please tell me why? Because as far as the SU are concerned your society should be a page on a CMS portal on the student network and to tell the truth who needs a bunch of geeks anyway."
