Radio Shack
From TermiSoc: A WikiHistory
Radio Shack could also be construed as what became Tandy - more info here
The Radio Shack at Plymouth was a top secret room of unknown dimensions. Possibly locatied at the top of the Smeaton Building or on a roof near a large satelite receiver. It was the territory of the Ham Radio Club and was kept locked from prying eyes.
The original TermiSoc may have started of as part of this secret society, but rifts occurred and TermiSoc drifted off onto their journey.
Garrick Twinney was a trusted member of the Ham Radio community and he gained access to The Cadmus, which later became the society's first computer server. It was rumoured to have cost the Polytechnic South West (as the University was then known) £100,000 in the late eighties but never used because it was too noisy and problematic. The University was not too concerned as it had three or four fantastic Prime Computes once advertised by Tom Baker and Lalla Ward.
