PlymNet is the colloquial term for the University of Plymouth Network.

At last sitting, it is a wide-area network covering Plymouth, Newton Abbott, Exeter, Exmouth and Taunton campuses, as well as a few partner college connections too. It is currently in it's third generation.

The main body of the network is dotted around the main Plymouth campus in several datacentres:

  • Babbage Building - data storage and management
  • Mary Newman Building - routing backup
  • Portland Square - main routing servers
  • Davy Building - telecommunications and JAnet link

There are plans for PlymNet 4 to take advantage of the new builds that are going up. Rumours abound that the Mary Newman backup system will be moved into Reynolds.
