Marc 'Mabs' Flamank

For many years, School of Computing technician at the University of Plymouth.

Among other things, he looked after the Linux labs, the School of Computing's Solaris fileservers, and Sirius, a Debian server (originally with Dr Phil Brooke, then with Dr Nigel Barlow).

In 2008, Marc left UoP to become Linux Support Officer at Plymouth Marine Laboratory.

Beard

Mark has a rather impressive beard, as befits a Unix guru. Apparently, there exists a "before and after" shot - Mark before Unix, with no beard, and Mark since Unix.

I went to Cardiff University with Marc and at one point shared a house with him. He was pretty much always beardy apart from a very brief spell when it disappeared.
